By Trevor Hughes The Daily Times-Call: GUNBARREL — A woman bicycling with her mother was run over and crushed to death in an accident caused by a loaded gravel truck Monday morning, and officials were investigating if the truck’s brakes were defective.
Linnea Luscher, 39, was killed in front of almost a dozen witnesses who were stopped at a traffic light on the Diagonal Highway. Her death came as the Front Range marked Bike & Walk to Work Week, and Bike & Walk to Work Day on Wednesday.
It was the second fatal accident involving a bicyclist and a gravel truck this month.
Monday’s accident happened about 10 a.m. at the intersection of the Diagonal Highway and 63rd Street, near Gunbarrel, and just north of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad tracks. The accident and subsequent investigation disrupted Longmont-bound traffic for hours.
